This beautiful Chinese ceramic fish bowl
was recently acquired at an estate auction of a longtime collector in Western Illinois. Decorated in vivid vibrant colors with birds & flowers makes this appealing, desirable, & collectible.
Chinese ceramics show a continuous development since pre-dynastic times & are one of the most significant forms of Chinese art & ceramics globally. Increasingly over their long history, Chinese ceramics can be classified between those made for the imperial court, those made for a discriminating Chinese market, & those for export to popular Chinese markets abroad.
This antique bowl is marked with an apocryphal (i.e. not of the era stated) Qianlong red seal mark on the bottom. These marks are commonly early 20th century export marks. Qianlong was an Emperor hundreds of years ago (1736-1795) during the Qing dynasty.
It is important to understand that an apocryphally marked item (made later than the era stated), does not render the item either a 'fake' or valueless.  In essence, they are items made in homage to the great era of Chinese porcelain making.  These items still have significant value, depending on the quality of the decoration and make.
We present this beautiful  piece exactly as it was when acquired. No attempts to clean this item have been made. It shows some wear. There are some spots & crazing on the interior.
There is a chip on the inside rim.
These issues do not detract from the overall beauty of this rare fish bowl. This will make a great addition to any home or collection.
