Antique QIANLONG 1735-1796 Mark & Period IMPERIAL YELLOW Ware Porcelain BowlFor your consideration is an outstanding bowl, made of fine porcelain with a heavy Imperial Yellow glaze
Fluted form, resembling a flower blossom
Meander trim on the top rim and bottom platform
Glazed all over but for the extreme bottom edge, where it meets the table
Yellow was the Emperor's chosen color, and held high status in court ceremonies performed during the period. It represented the earth, soil and agriculture, one of the four temple colors, and also symbolized the hierarchy at the highest levels of Chinese society at the time. Such wares were reserved exclusively for the highest classes
Signed on the underside with a deep-stamped character mark - Qianlong Emperor, Qing Dynasty
Antique, 18th Century - China, Qianlong period (1735-1796)
