Something very strange about this piece. it appears that an antique Chinese bowl was taken and turned into an ashtray using sterling silver which is marked with a stamp and 925.
Reason being that covering up the hand painted scenes on the exterior sides of the piece with sterling, makes no sense...why bother painting if it will be covered up. My thought is that this was an antique bowl that was turned into a mid century looking ashtray. Condition is very good.
