Today we are delighted to offer for sale a beautiful Chinese Export porcelain foot bath bowl!
This exquisite piece is a replica of 18th century originals, made for the European export market. Originally used as luxurious foot baths, these bowls can be used as centerpieces on a dining table, sideboard or console, and will look stunning filled with flowers/orchids. The handled foot bath is done in the Famille Rose/ Rose Medallion/Canton style and made heavy porcelain and wonderfully hand-painted with vibrant and colorful enameled glazes. The front and back of the piece feature a large cartouche with hand-painted scene of Imperial life at the palace: the Emperor is seated at a his table inside a garden temple, with large porcelain screen in the background, while courtiers fan and tend to his needs. The Empress, seated in a lavish rickshaw, is gently pushed while strolling the grounds while a courtier shields her from the sun with a large pagoda umbrella. The sides of the bowl feature gilded handles inset in cartouche panels lovely birds perched up on floral tree branches with butterflies. The background is done in lavish gilding with floral overlay decorations. The interior of the bowl features large hand-painted carps and fish. The bowl is marked on the bottom, and comes with a bespoke footed wooden base.
Bowl presents well and is in very good condition, with minimal wear and patina, and no chips or cracks. There is minimal wear to gilding. The wood base has fading and wear. Please review all photos before purchasing.
