Description
This vintage (early 1900s) Masonic penny (or token) is from the Sarasota Chapter No. 35 R. A. M. in Sarasota, Florida, and it is unusual because a generic Masonic penny was engraved with both the chapter information and the brother's 'mark.' One side has a wreath enclosingthe words
ONE PENNY
, with
SARASOTA CHAPTER R. A. M. FLA. 35
engraved around the wreath. The other side has images of a chisel, maul, and large keystone. The brother's 'mark' was engraved in the center of the keystone, consisting of a star (pentagram) surrounded by four letters -
G H F B
. The diameter i
s approximately 29 mm (1-1/8"), and the composition is copper.
This Masonic penny is in very fine condition, with relatively light wear, signs of handling, and toning, and it remains bright. The engraving is clearer than in the photos, with the full star being visible.
The illustrations in this listing are photos of the actual item being offered for sale, serving as part of the description. NOTE: Shadows were produced during photography. This token is brighter than evident in the photos.
