Native American 17 1/2" Dance Stick Antler Coyote Fur Leather Glass Seed Beads

I have been a life long collector of Native American items.  I purchased this dance stick new in 1994 at the Indian Art Show in Denver, Co.   The dance stick itself is finely done and is adorned with a deer antler, coyote fur, peyote stitched glass seed beads, white heart beads, and brass beads. The stick is wrapped with a braided leather strip.  The middle is peyote stitched beaded with dark blue, light blue, black, and white glass seed beads.   The fur fluffs are coyote.  The fringe has blue white heart glass beads and brass beads which have large centers.  It is beautifully made with attention to detail.
Dancing was always an important part of Native American life not only for entertainment and storytelling, but also for more serious purposes such as war, hunting, healing, honor or spiritual life.  A successful dance was made up of different elements such as drums, flutes, chants, costumes and the Dance Stick.  Dance sticks were crafted by nearly all Native American tribes and were an integral part of each specific dance.  They varied in design depending on the purpose of the dance. Generally, they were made of a length of wood with an antler or skull attached to the end.  Dance sticks were held in high regard and were passed down from generation to generation.

is 5" long x 2 1/2" deep
Beaded Strip is 3 3/4" long by 7/8" round
Fur patches are 1 1/4" and 1 1/2"
