    Description

    Hello,
This auction is for a prohibition era "book" with hidden vials.
Spring Poems, The Four Swallows: Memories of the Past, by J.B. Corn. 1921
This four-flask was used during the Prohibition period to hide a few swigs of ones favorite libations. Sitting on a shelf among the rest of the books, it would have been invisible to any prying eyes. This 3 1/2" x 5 1/4" x 1" book is metal, covered with canvas, then lacquered to look like leather. The lacquer has worn some with use and age. There is a hidden button in the book's spine to pop the top open. The four glass vials are inside, all in good shape. The corks are there as well. The hallmark on the bottom looks like a nut with RY Brooklyn, NY. Patented Feb. 221921 Pat 1369123. John Nutry was known for making little "books" that functioned as banks. The sides are brushed brass to make it look like a book. Written on the front in faded letters is "Spring Poems The Four Swallows". On the binding is written "Memories of the Past" J.B. Corn, and at the bottom, "Volume II". A great conversation piece and nice addition for anyone who collects Prohibition era memorabilia!
