Description
This auction is for a superb antique Qing Chinese famille rose porcelain bowl decorated with three manderin ducks and bats. The ground is white porcelain. The hand painted art work in the center of the bowl is finely painted with exquisite details showing three manderin ducks among flowering plants on green grass. Two of the manderin ducks are claiming the same worm. The third duck sleeps with bill tucked to the back under a wing. The colors in the design are traditional Chinese famille rose with greens, rose, orange, blue, grey and black. There are three large flying bats around with outer rim of the bowl in colors of orange with gold trim.
I purchased this bowl in California about 40 years ago from a family with three generations of Chinese art collectors & antique dealers. This bowl was one of their prized pieces. The bowl is not marked but was sold to me as antique 19th Century Qing. There are four stilt marks on the base of the bowl which helps to date the bowl.
Manderin ducks are very much admired in Chinese art. They symbolize fidelity, peace and prosperity. Bats are also desirable in Chinese art. They symbolize good fortune and happiness. The beautiful design on the bowl with manderin ducks and bats is highly prized by collectors of Chinese art.
A vintage Chinese carved wood stand is included in the auction but is not original to the bowl. The graceful brown stand is round at the top with the four graceful, curved legs. There is highly detailed open work carved around the top of the stand under the display area. There are four large flowers carved in the open work. The stand is unmarked but certainly vintage Chinese art work and collectible by itself. The stand displays the antique Chinese bowl beautifully.
Overall, the porcelain bowl is in excellent antique condition with expected wear. There could be very minor surface scratches or very slight enamel loss on the porcelain. Characteristics of old porcelain may be present such as tiny pits. There are no cracks, chips, hairlines, repairs or other damage to the bowl that I can find.
The carved open work wood stand is in excellent condition with age appropriate wear. There could be minor surface scratches and variations in the stain. There no cracks, chips, repairs, missing parts or damage that I see.
