Zeiss/Ikon Super Ikonta B Catalog – 1969

This is a catalog for the Zeiss/Ikon Super Ikonta B camera. It contains six panels and measures approximately 5 x 7.25 inches.
Zeiss is a German camera manufacturer. Unusual by modern standards, the prime feature of the Zeiss Ikontas (in all versions and film sizes) is/was their ability to fold up flat into a very small package -- making Ikontas the highpoint of small camera, large negative.
No modern camera boasts such a large negative for its size. Of course the bane of all folding cameras’ existence was lack of rigidity and keeping the lens parallel with the film. Zeiss’ skilled engineers turned these problems into Ikonta strong points, elevating Ikontas to be considered the best folding cameras ever made.
Zeiss Super Ikonta B's are 2.25 x 2.25 inch format. Made from the early 1930s to the early 1960s, the various versions can be confusing. Using the 80/2.8 Tessar, the best Tessar was the post-war coated version. The best shutter is the post-war Synchro Compur. Simplified versions without rangefinders were "Ikontas" (rather than "Super Ikontas") fitted with less expensive lenses and shutters. Early versions are labeled "Super Ikomat."
Luckily, the Super Ikonta models A, B and C all used easily available 120 film. The D had an even larger format, for long-discontinued 616 film.
